TWICE THE CELEBRATION - 30th Anniversary and Opening of the new Fábrica de Puros MSC

The opening of the Fábrica de Puros takes marks a pivotal moment in the journey of the company that coincides with the 30th anniversary of Maya Selva Cigars. This event represents an opportunity for celebration.

January 18th, 2025 - Danlí, El Paraíso

The fine aroma of tobacco rises within the tall, luminous spaces of the MSC Factory, as if Kawiil, the Mayan god of fire, himself whispered secrets of an ancient culture into the air—mystical teachings that have survived to this day.

Visitors are welcomed by a magnificent glass mural Tabaco Sagrado (Sacred Tobacco), by the internationally renowned Honduran artist Regina Aguilar. This work captures within the glass tobacco leaves and the spirit of a magnificent smoke while playing with sunlight and reflections that penetrate the windows as well as the senses.

In the main hall, the aroma of tobacco leaves fills every corner as dozens of torceadores work rolling and assembling cigars. This factory is a universe where tradition and quality converge to create cigars of exceptional character, enjoyed by aficionados worldwide.

For 30 years, Maya Selva Cigars has been producing premium cigars under the brands Flor de Selva, Cumpay, and Villa Zamorano, which are primarily exported to countries in Europe and Asia. Its founder is passionate about the land where she grew up and works tirelessly for it. Every aspect of production is made in Honduras, from tobacco growing to the finished cigar. The packaging, boxes, and bands—every part of the extraordinary journey from the Jamastrán Valley to the final distributor—are crafted by Honduran hands.

Maya Selva is a true dream maker, turning collective aspirations into tangible realities that translate into the well-being of dozens of Honduran families and contributes to the development to her homeland. Through her efforts, she has put Honduras on the map for premium cigars. She has conquered an Old World eager for new aromas, flavors, and delights.

The journey to excellence is not without challenges. Only brands that consistently deliver superior quality remain in the favor of buyers. It is no coincidence that Maya Selva Cigars is distributed in 55 countries across Europe, Asia, the Americas, reaching thousands of people who seek to enjoy a Flor de Selva, a Cumpay, or a Villa Zamorano.

The Fábrica de Puros MSC embodies 30 years of an adventure that began with a love for the land, tobacco, and the country. Over these thirty years, Maya Selva has solidified her position as a steadfast entrepreneur succeeding in an industry still considered male-dominated. Her brands are internationally recognized and multi-awarded. Her dreams are shared with over 100 direct employees and countless others who benefit indirectly from the remarkable work of a company that is an invaluable asset to Honduras.

The value of a fine cigar? One would need weighing the heritage of a culture that inhabited this land around 1500 BCE, considering tobacco a sacred medicine used in temples and rituals under the blessing of Picietl, the tobacco god for the Maya and Nahua people. One must also account for the hundreds of pairs of hands involved throughout a process and the expertise and skill of the artisan who imbues every cigar with a piece of their spirit and knowhow.

For this reason, in 2016, the National Congress of Honduras declared the know-how of handmade cigars as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, recognizing their historical, cultural, and economic importance. This acknowledgment strengthens national identity and pride.

Maya Selva Cigars understands and honors the respect for culture, history, tradition, the land, and its people, which brings the company to the celebrate of 30 years of making great cigars and the opening of the Fábrica de Puros MSC in Daní, Honduras.
